Patsy Kelly: Celebrating the Life and Legacy of a Golden Age Comedy Star

Patsy Kelly was a standout figure in American comedy during the 1930s and 1940s, known for her sharp wit, lively personality, and 'tough girl' persona. Starting her career in vaudeville, she effortlessly transitioned to Hollywood, becoming a memorable supporting actress who could command attention with a single look or a cleverly delivered line. Kelly's ability to blend humor with authenticity made her a beloved performer both on stage and screen. Her career experienced a remarkable revival later in life, culminating in a Tony Award for her role in the 1971 Broadway revival of 'No, No, Nanette.' Beyond her professional achievements, she is remembered as a trailblazer who navigated Hollywood's restrictive environment with grace and individuality. Kelly's legacy continues to resonate as an example of comedic brilliance and personal authenticity during one of the most iconic periods in entertainment history.

(ARD, Wh.)

Finally started watching the Thelma Todd-Patsy Kelly shorts on a DVD set I’ve had for a couple years. I should not have waited so long. Patsy Kelly is a hoot no matter what she is doing, and Todd is an excellent partner for her.

#AmWatching WAKE UP AND LIVE (1937) - the feud between Walter Winchell and Ben Bernie is just there, but I'm here for some great #musical numbers. Also, you can't go wrong with witty dialogue w/ #comedycharacter pros #PatsyKelly #WalterCatlett #JackHaley

#AmWatching PICK A STAR (1937)- a delightful #HalRoach production. #PatsyKelly and #JackHaley really successfully carry this film and there's also a cute appearance by #LaurelandHardy. It's a Cinderella story where the Cinderella character is the least interesting of the ensemble. You'll be sure to smile at the behind the scenes 1937 Hollywood scenes. Patsy Kelly has become a favorite, plus Jack Haley is so sweet here.
