David WilkinsYesterday I featured the 2012 Seat Toledo, which was basically a rebadged version of the Skoda Rapid, a sort of scaled-down Octavia based mostly on Volkswagen Polo components (blue car, 2012 #ParisMotorShow). The grey car is the previous rear-engined 1984 Skoda Rapid (#TechnoClassica 2014), a coupé version of the Skoda Estelle, as it was called in the UK, with greatly improved rear suspension. After posting yesterday about the launch of the Jaguar F-Type, I was looking at my other photos from the 2012 #ParisMotorShow and came across this, the fourth iteration of the Seat Toledo (blue car). This car represented a return to the ‘notchback with a hatch’ recipe of the original Toledo (white car, previously posted from #FOTU 2023) but was mostly a rebadged Skoda Rapid, leaving little scope for Seat’s designers to inject any Latin flair. #Seat #Skoda #WeirdCarMastodon #davidsdailycar
While the design of the Jaguar F-Type was trailed using the fixed-head C-X16 concept featured yesterday, the first version to be launched was the convertible. These blurry photos are from Jaguar’s eve of #ParisMotorShow unveil for journalists in 2012. Put the blurriness down to a mixture of ineptitude (mine), excitement, a weird light show and a dark rainy night. The lady in the white dress is the singer Lana Del Rey, who is apparently quite well known. #Jaguar #WeirdCarMastodon #davidsdailycar
#Bitter now mainly concentrates on tweaking mainstream #Opel models as in the case of this ‘by Bitter’ version of the Opel Adam (purple car), seen on the Bitter stand at #TechnoClassica in 2014. ‘By Bitter’ was subsequently replaced by ‘Bitter Edition’ branding. On press day at the 2012 #ParisMotorShow, I captured another individual take on the Adam (car with heart motifs) in the form of this one-off example decorated by the British pop artist Sir Peter Blake. #WeirdCarMastodon #davidsdailycar
