Usually we focus on measuring -and hence valuing- outcomes rather than processes. The push for productivity in a fast paced world makes us to focus on the "what" while paying little attention to the "how." In some sense, this approach treats systems as black boxes where the most valuable aspect is the product itself.

The idea of value is ubiquitous in our modern world. Particularly, how we assign and measure value determines most of our actions, from an individual to a systematic level. It is well known that systems tend to optimize to what is measured. Measurements become a tacit goal for most of our modern systems, higher education being one of them. Two important questions arise: what we measure and how we measure it. Implicitly, the answer of these two questions reflect what we value.
