After 14 years, Mayor Michael Cherepko announced his retirement at the beginning of Wednesday’s city council meeting, saying that although he loved the job, it had taken a toll on him and his family.

Council voted 7-0 to appoint City Administrator Tom Maglicco, a lifelong resident and U.S. Army veteran, to fill the remaining 23 months of Cherepko’s term.

A good turnout for an off-year #election in my corner of Philadelphia. 376 people voted in person in my precinct. They didn't count mail-ins on-site, but one poll worker estimated about 100 mail-in ballots in addition.

As usual for our lefty neighborhood, our local vote proportions (more than 10-1 in favor of DA Krasner, and retaining Democratic SC justices) can't be considered representative of the wider electorate. But our relative turnout often tracks that of other precincts. #PApol #USpol
