After 14 years, Mayor Michael Cherepko announced his retirement at the beginning of Wednesday’s city council meeting, saying that although he loved the job, it had taken a toll on him and his family.

Council voted 7-0 to appoint City Administrator Tom Maglicco, a lifelong resident and U.S. Army veteran, to fill the remaining 23 months of Cherepko’s term.
