Exclusive: Galaxy Watch6 and Watch5 are not eligible for the One UI 8 Watch Beta [update]

Samsung has opened the One UI 8 Watch beta program for the Galaxy Watch6 as of September 24th. We expect that the Galaxy Watch5 beta program be open soon, and with clear communication. Therefore, you can disregard this report as unreliable.

Samsung has planned to start the One UI 8 Watch Beta Program for the Galaxy smartwatches. Since then, we’ve seen only the Galaxy Watch7 and Watch Ultra getting their One UI 8 Beta program in Korea and USA, with the latter ending its Beta program as soon as Galaxy Watch8 was released on July.

With many anticipation as to when Galaxy Watch6 and Watch5 would at least get their Beta Program, we had expected this program to start for the 2023 and 2022 smartwatches. Unfortunately, we’ve not seen anything until now.

The good news is that Samsung is currently working on the stable version for both the Galaxy Watch6 and Watch5 as it looks like that they’ve skipped the beta program for the two smartwatches. We have information that Samsung will not open the Beta Program for the two smartwatches as they’re not eligible, as confirmed by the beta moderator. The following response to our inquiry via a private message confirms this:

Instead, just like Galaxy Watch4, they’ll get the stable update directly. This means that you will be able to experience the stable version directly when it releases, starting from the Galaxy Watch7 devices on October.

Are you ready for the One UI 8 Watch update?

One UI 8 Watch Beta 2 will be released soon!

Looks like that we’ve seen some progress in the One UI 8 Watch Beta program for the Galaxy Watch7 series nearly two weeks after the Galaxy Watch Ultra has been updated! Today, we’ve spotted new Beta builds, corresponding to August builds, for the following Galaxy Watch7 smartwatch models (only the Beta eligible devices are listed):

  • SM-L315N: L315NKOU1ZYH2 [KOO]
  • SM-L315U: L315USQU1ZYH2 [TMB]
  • SM-L305N: L305NKOU1ZYH2 [KOO]
  • SM-L305U: L305USQU1ZYH2 [TMB]
  • SM-L310: L310XXU1ZYH2 [XAA, KOO]
  • SM-L300: L300XXU1ZYH2 [XAA, KOO]

The mystery has been solved, because Samsung has finally worked on the second Beta version of the One UI 8 Watch software for the Galaxy Watch7 series, which is a relief in itself. This was especially since there were no new beta builds for the entirety of July, which caused users to wonder if their Galaxy Watch7 smartwatches that joined the beta program would ever get an update.

Meanwhile, there are no new beta builds yet for either the Galaxy Watch6 or the Galaxy Watch5 smartwatches, but the above build mentioned should be a sign that the beta program for these smartwatches will start very soon.

One UI 8 Watch brings a design change to match the upcoming One UI 8 operating system for phones, while using the design aesthetics that come from One UI 7, which was released in April 17th.

Where’s the stable One UI 8 Watch for Galaxy Watch7?

Samsung has released the first One UI 8 Watch Beta update for the OG Galaxy Watch Ultra (2024) and the Galaxy Watch7 smartwatches. Since then, we have been seeing updates to the Beta version of the same operating system for both the Galaxy Watch6 and the Watch5 series, while the Galaxy Watch4 was being worked on simultaneously. However, at around July 22nd to 24th, Samsung has released the stable version of One UI 8 Watch for those who have the OG Galaxy Watch Ultra.

Since then, there have been no updates as to when the remaining smartwatches will get the revolutionary update. Also, when we investigated the latest test build information for the Galaxy Watch7 smartwatch, we saw that it’s stuck on the first beta version:

  • SM-L310
    • Beta: L310XXU1ZYFE
    • Stable: L310XXU1BYFE
  • SM-L300
    • Beta: L300XXU1ZYFE
    • Stable: L300XXU1BYFE

Whereas the following smartwatches appear to have their Beta development ongoing:

  • Galaxy Watch6
    • R960XXU1ZYG6
    • R950XXU1ZYG6
    • R940XXU1ZYG6
    • R930XXU1ZYG6

Note that there are no beta builds for One UI 8 Watch yet for the Galaxy Watch5 series, because the test server reveals:

  • Galaxy Watch5
    • R920XXU1DYG6
    • R910XXU1DYG6
    • R900XXU1DYG6

Users in the official Korean Beta boards for the One UI 8 Watch software were wondering if their Galaxy Watch7 smartwatches would get at least the “second beta” for the upcoming operating system that debuted on the Galaxy Watch8 smartwatch series. Posts like this were surfaced, suggesting that people were wondering if their Galaxy Watch7 would be updated to the newer build.

When something similar happened to the One UI 8 Beta Program for the Galaxy S25, an apology was made, and the promised release was made a week after the apology.

We expect that an official clarification be made so that those who have participated in the One UI 8 Watch Beta Program on their Galaxy Watch7 smartwatches can have their expected update soon.

One UI 8 Watch Beta for Galaxy Watch7 and Watch Ultra clarification

Since the Beta program for the newest Galaxy watches released last year was released for users to get an early access to the One UI 8 Watch system, it was only made available for the USA and for Korean users. In the USA, Samsung offered to open the Beta program for the Galaxy Watch Ultra users.

Despite the availability, many Galaxy Watch7 and Watch Ultra users were unable to download the latest beta software for their watches, especially when they didn’t connect the watch to an active T-Mobile network plan. Samsung was made aware of this issue through the official beta program feedback by users reporting this issue. If you are on the Bluetooth version of Galaxy Watch7, you don’t need to read further.

As a result, a new thread was created that clarified the reasons as to why the Galaxy Watch Ultra users were unable to download the beta version of One UI 8 Watch, despite having already joined the program.

The conditions for being able to receive the first beta update have been clarified. When your Galaxy Watch Ultra is not connected to any T-Mobile network, you won’t be able to receive any software update.

You can confirm that your smartwatch has been connected to an active T-Mobile network plan by going to your watch settings. Watches that are connected to such network plan must look like this:

Once you confirm that your watch is connected to an active T-Mobile network plan, you can start downloading the update.
