Official changelogs for One UI 8.5 Beta

One UI 8.5 has made a significant appearance, with new features, design improvements, and other improvements. Samsung has recently opened the One UI 8.5 Beta Program in Korea, the USA, the UK, and Germany, with the program extending to India and Poland when the second beta gets released.

You can see the official changelogs below:

Quickly connect to Smart View devices

  • Connect to your favorite display faster. You can now add a shortcut on your Home screen to instantly mirror your phone’s screen to a TV or other display device.

Enhanced Auracast features

  • It’s easier than ever to listen to and broadcast sound with Auracast. Options for both broadcasting and listening are now located in the Audio broadcast menu in Settings.

  • Wallpapers with pictures of people or pets now fit perfectly every time. When you choose a photo for your Lock screen, the layout adjusts automatically so the clock and widgets don’t cover important parts of the picture.

More customizable clock fonts

  • Personalize your Lock screen clock. You can now adjust the thickness of more font styles to match your preferred look.

Weather

Enhanced weather widget

  • Quickly check upcoming precipitation in the Weather widget on your Home screen. The widget now shows a graph if precipitation is expected in the next few hours.

Pollen index

  • Check how much pollen is in the air to help manage your allergies. You can check pollen levels for trees, grass, and ragweed.

Clock

Weather alarm backgrounds

  • Wake up to an alarm that gets you ready for the day’s weather. Your alarm screen can now show the current weather conditions as a background when it rings.

Time zone converter

  • Compare time zones at a glance. The new slider in the Clock app makes it easy to check the time difference between places around the world.

Samsung Health

Enhanced weekly reports

  • See a fuller picture of your health each week. Weekly reports now include data from your medication tracker and mindfulness sessions.

Upgraded Sharing Experience

  • Share your workouts your way. Mix and match your exercise stats with photos from your workout to create the perfect social media post.

Start meditations from your watch

  • Find calm right from your wrist. You can now start favorite or recommended meditations directly on your Galaxy Watch without picking up your phone.

Antioxidant measurements from your watch

  • Check your antioxidant levels anytime. Measure directly from your Galaxy Watch, even if it’s not connected to your phone. Works with Galaxy Watch8 and Galaxy Watch Ultra.

Security and privacy

Theft protection

  • Keep your phone and data safe in case it is lost or stolen. Turn on Failed authentication lock to automatically lock the screen in case there are too many failed attempts to verify your identity using your fingerprints, PIN, pattern, or password. Identity check also protects even more settings than before.

Turn off Auto blocker temporarily

  • If you need to temporarily disable Auto blocker’s security protection, a new option lets you turn it on automatically 30 minutes later so you don’t forget.

Battery and power

Revamped battery info

  • See your battery use more clearly. The redesigned Battery settings screen makes it easier to check remaining time, charging status, and daily usage over the past week.

Improved Power saving

  • Use Power saving to make your battery last longer without charging. Choose Standard for moderate savings and customizable limits, or choose Maximum to turn off all non-essential features and make your battery last as long as possible.

Accessibility

Easily control Bluetooth hearing aids

  • Access settings for your Bluetooth hearing aids directly from the Accessibility shortcut. A pop-up will appear that lets you change your hearing program, turn Ambient sound on or off, and more.

Control magnification with mouse or keyboard

  • Keep what you need magnified in view with these new options. You can make the magnified area follow the cursor as you type or move when you change focus using the keyboard. When using a mouse, you can make the magnified area shift as you move the pointer to the edge of the screen.

Dwell action and Corner actions

  • The Auto action after pointer stops feature has been divided into 2 features. Dwell action lets you set custom actions when your mouse stops moving for a certain amount of time. Corner actions let you set a different action for each corner of the screen.

Even more improvements

More customizable quick panel

  • Arrange your quick settings just the way you like them. You can now add, remove, reorder, and reorganize controls in the quick panel.

Early alerts for reminders

  • Get alerts before reminders are due to make sure you don’t forget important tasks. You can choose how far in advance to get an alert for each reminder.

Partial screen recording

  • Include only what you need in your screen recordings. You can now select only the part of the screen that you want to record.

Calculator nudges

  • Save time on calculations. Numbers and formulas copied to your clipboard will be suggested when you open Calculator so you can enter them with a quick tap.

Keep window sizes in DeX

  • DeX now remembers your app window sizes and positions. When you open an app again, it appears just as you left it.

One UI 8.5 Beta Program for the Galaxy S25 is getting ready!

One UI 8.5 brings major aesthetic changes and new features, including the flexible quick panel configuration and redesigned user interface. This version of One UI is slated to appear on the Galaxy S26 series, which will be unveiled early next year. Getting ready for One UI 8.5 Beta Program is a major milestone for the Galaxy users, as the One UI 8.0 rollout to all the devices is about to finish.

Today, the first beta build for the One UI 8.5 software has been spotted, starting from the Korean Galaxy S25 models. According to Tarun Vats, the build version is ZYKP, and it’s based on the first report from a Korean user on the local Samsung Members community forums.

This marks the start of the era of One UI 8.5 beta program that will be available for the Galaxy S25, according to the information that is currently available to us. There is no definite release date for the Beta program, but it should arrive in the coming weeks.

Once the first beta comes out for the Galaxy S25, we’ll inform you. We’d like to remind you that this beta program will be available (based on the history of the beta program) in Korea, USA, UK, India, Germany, and Poland, unless otherwise noted.

To be able to update to the beta version of One UI 8.5, you’ll need to use Samsung Members on an eligible phone. Additionally, you’ll need to be in one of the six countries we’ve mentioned to be able to participate.

Please note that certain Good Lock modules are not optimized for One UI 8.5 and may stop working after you update your phone to the beta version.

To update to One UI 8.5 Beta once it gets released, follow these steps:

  • Open Samsung Members on an eligible phone
  • Scroll down to Beta Program, or open the banner
  • Press “One UI 8.5 Beta Galaxy S25” or something similar
  • Read the instructions and press “Join”
  • Wait for a few moments, then check for updates on your phone
  • The update may take a few minutes to install. As the update is going to be large, you’ll have to download it over the Wi-Fi to avoid mobile data expenses. Never interrupt the update in any way, or you may experience problems later.

As always, report bugs that you find to either the Samsung Members community under the Beta section or the error reports section. Several beta versions are expected to appear to ensure stability of the software, before the official stable release expected in the first half of 2026.

Our projects welcome One UI 8!

Starting from today, we have finally set the support date for our official support of One UI 8 that was released for the Galaxy S25 series on September 15th. One UI 8 is an operating system that brings minor improvements in different areas, while introducing exciting new features, such as the adaptive lock screen clock.

We will begin supporting users who are using One UI 8 to support our projects, such as Nitrocid KS and BassBoom, until December 2nd, 2032. Our projects can now run on One UI 8, which is a big achievement for us, as we keep supporting our projects on Android.

Furthermore, we’d like to remind users who are still using One UI 6.x, which was released in 2023, that our support of this operating system version will cut off starting December 30th, 2027. This is to ensure that we keep going forward. You can still run our projects after this date, but all official support will end.

To update to One UI 8, make sure that you’re using an eligible device, such as Samsung Galaxy S25; Galaxy Z Fold6; and Galaxy Tab S10, before you check for updates. The rollout may vary, depending on the model and the country.

One UI 8 allows you to see “Other files” in Storage Manager

One UI 8.0 introduces a new feature that allows you to see the “Other Files” that occupy your device’s storage in the Storage Manager, alongside photos, videos, and other categorized files. This allows you to free up some space to allow more data inside your device. You can access this menu through Settings > Device Care > Storage.

Once inside, you’ll be met with three categories: invisible backups, pending files, and uncategorized files.

Select any invisible backup, and you’ll be presented with an option to delete those backups. When editing a picture in your gallery app, you’ll notice that there are invisible backups being created for you to be able to revert to the original image, should you not like the edits being made after editing.

Pending files are the files that are pending processing. However, you’ll only be presented with an option to see the details of the selected file. If you select only one file, you’ll be given a path, just like below:

As for the uncategorized files, the files that are recognized by My Files but not yet categorized into anything will show up as “Other files”, therefore, those files are shown in the list.

However, a big disappointment is that when you select files, you’ll only be presented with an option to show the file details. Honestly, an option to delete files should have been included to save time, but it’s not implemented in this version. Therefore, you’ll have to spend time getting the paths to a file you want to delete using the only option that you have, called file info. Then, going to those paths to find the file before deleting it.

So, while this long-awaited feature has been finally implemented for general use, there are things that are missing, such as deletion of uncategorized files from this screen. We expect to see improvements in this area in One UI 8.5 or 9.0.

As for One UI 9.0 based on Android 17, the Galaxy Tab S8 won’t get the update as the upgrade cycle has been finally complete, with One UI 8.5 being the last update to get.

One UI 8 Showcase [Galaxy Tab S8]

The Galaxy Tab S8 has recently received the One UI 8 update that was first released this July for the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7 foldables, as well as the Flip FE. It brought Now Brief to the foldables and to the tablets, but it only reached the newest devices. The Galaxy Tab S8 misses out on some features, such as Now Brief that shows you daily briefing.

Rolling out One UI 8 to the majority of the devices was a huge leap forward, especially when those devices are eligible, and the flagship devices that recently got the update (excluding the FE) included:

    • Galaxy S25 series
    • Galaxy S25 Edge
    • Galaxy S24 series
    • Galaxy S23 series
    • Galaxy S22 series
    • Galaxy Z Fold6/Flip6
    • Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition
    • Galaxy Z Fold5/Flip5
    • Galaxy Z Fold4/Flip4
    • Galaxy Tab S10 series
    • Galaxy Tab S9 series
    • Galaxy Tab S8 series

While there are some eligible devices that didn’t get the update yet, we’ll showcase the One UI 8 experience on the Galaxy Tab S8 to see what new features made it to the tablet.

This is the first thing that you see once your tablet updates to One UI 8. The introductory screen shows you the Galaxy AI features, before telling you that you’re set. You can see what’s new from the Tips application to learn more about the update, as well as the official changelogs.

In the software information page, you can see that the tablet is now successfully running One UI 8.0 based on Android 16, and that it’s now running off the EYJ4 build that was compiled on October 16th.

Let’s get straight to the point. However, we won’t showcase all features, but we’ll showcase the most of them. In the lock screen editing option, you can now add more widgets! Before, you used to only be able to add four, three, or two widgets, depending on their size. Now, more widgets have been added, including the calendar, so that you can now have access to more key information effortlessly.

When you open the lock screen editing feature, you’ll notice that the widget area became larger than before, allowing more widgets to be placed.

This is good, especially if you want more information to show up on your lock screen. For example, you can insert a full calendar, a 2×2 photo, or anything else to the lock screen.

Not only that, you can now rotate the widgets to relocate them to the left side of the screen. However, you can’t move them to the right side of the screen. This feature is going to make your lock screen look more informational, as you can see below.

Not only that, but you can also add multiple instances of some widgets, such as when you need to show two different pictures.

In the Live Notifications settings, you can now enable both Google Finance and Sports from Google. Those weren’t available in One UI 7 for the Galaxy Tab S8, but you can now get finance and match information on your Now Bar, as well as the live notifications.

Of course, you’ll have to configure both to get them to work on your Now Bar. In Google Finance, you’ll have to add stocks to your watchlist, such as DOW JONES, NASDAQ, and so on.

As for Sports from Google, you’ll have to follow leagues and teams. For example, you’ll have to follow leagues like LaLiga and UEFA Champions League, and teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Juventus. You can also follow more teams from not only the soccer game, but other sports games like basketball, cricket, baseball, hockey, rugby, and American Football.

If you want deep analysis of a match that you’re interested in, you’ll have to download Sofascore to obtain more analytical information about a specific match. This app won’t conflict with Sports from Google since Sofascore doesn’t support Now Bar yet. We are not affiliated with Sofascore, but it’s our recommendation.

    Download Sofascore

Once set up, you should be able to see match information on your lock screen and in your status bar.

As for Quick Share, it has been updated to make sharing files easier than never before. Just press on the Quick Share button on your quick settings panel, and you’ll be greeted with this screen.

Then, either follow the usual steps and connect to the target device, or become a receiver.

In your notes on Samsung Notes, you can finally add sticky notes to them. They act like temporary notes that are independent from your final note. Just press the Add button, and press Sticky note.

After that, a sticky note will appear. Write down some notes. You can change its appearance, such as color.

In both the Recents and the Downloads screen of My Files app, you can now filter the list of files based on app, such as Chrome and others.

When it comes to multitasking, you can now achieve the 90:10 aspect ratio to maximize your productivity. One app shows on your screen, and the other stays hidden until you press on it. This is useful if you want to get information from two apps without having to leave the current app.

This makes your tablet a productivity powerhouse, further enhanced by the ability to open three apps side by side. One UI 7 and earlier didn’t allow this, but we’ve seen this kind of improvement thanks to One UI 8.0.

When you’re in tablet mode, you can drag the small handle in the top edge of the screen, and drag it down to make a DeX workspace that works like your desktop. From then on, you can open multiple apps as if you’re on a desktop.

Once done, the final result is similar to this:

You can also snap a window left and another window right by pressing the drop down menu at the top of the application, and selecting one of the options.

In the Reminder app, you can now see some of the suggested reminders to quickly start making reminders.

Once you add reminders, you’ll be met with a list of reminders that you can quickly filter through.

For the calendar, it has been redesigned to allow you to list all events in a single day without opening a separate window, allowing you to add and manage events more quickly.

You can also add events and reminders straight from the quick add menu from the calendar without having to open the Reminder app. This increases productivity since you don’t have to open another app just to add a reminder.

You can now choose to hide all notifications on your lock screen to prevent anyone from seeing your notifications from your lock screen. Open the notification settings > Hide content while locked.

The resulting notifications will then look like this:

Side note: the notification panel background uses the background blur that is similar to how the flagship Galaxy Tab S11 tablets render their notification panels to achieve uniformity. The panels in this update for the Galaxy Tab S8 work similarly to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. To learn more, visit our article.

For accessibility needs, you can now magnify your keyboard. The zoom panel will automatically pan to whatever text you’re writing so you can clearly see what you’re writing.

You can also use your physical keyboard (Bluetooth or wired) to control your tablet’s mouse pointer, should you not want to use your mouse. Just use a combination of key shortcuts that are laid down below to control your mouse, similar to Windows’ built-in Mouse Keys, macOS’ built-in feature, and xdotool for Linux.

To activate this feature, you’ll have to press CMD + ALT + 4 (Start key for some keyboards). Afterwards, you can use the following keybindings:

Key combinationDescription / Action8Move mouse upkMove mouse downuMove mouse leftoMove mouse right7Move mouse left upwards9Move mouse right upwardsjMove mouse left downwardslMove mouse right downwardsiPrimary mouse button (left)/Secondary mouse button (right)mClick and hold,Release.Enter or exit scroll mode8Scroll upkScroll downuScroll leftoScroll right

Now, you can add more preset routines, including those with advanced conditions, such as routines that run when a weather forecast is, for example, rainy.

For example, you can add a routine called “Battery check before bed” that tells you aloud how much charge your tablet has before going to bed, with it also telling you to charge your tablet when the battery level is below 40%.

For routine conditions and actions, you now have even more routines to supercharge your automation.

If you have a group of alerts, you can now add existing alerts to an alarm group. When you click on the plus button, you can now add either a new alert or an existing alarm. If you’re planning to add existing alarms, all of them will be selected, and you can choose alarms as you like.

Once done, an existing alarm will be added to the group.

Not only that, but you can now also manage alarm groups straight from your home screen by adding a widget that shows you an alarm group. From there, you can turn all alarms on/off by a single button press.

Additionally, you are now allowed to choose how to display pop-up notification styles for critical alerts (Instagram DMs, important E-mail messages, and more) for an individual app instead of for all apps. Using a new settings option, you can now configure this to make an application either stand out or show a brief notification.

With the refined Weather app, you can now look at realistic weather representations at the top of the screen that shows you the actual weather conditions. This banner changes according to both the time of day and the weather condition. Scrolling down is a bit jerky until this banner becomes off screen, but it’s otherwise smooth.

You can add more DeX desktops by pressing this button in the Recents screen.

As for the dialog boxes, they now earn blurred transparent background. This makes those dialog boxes look attractive.

The Security and Privacy settings gets a minor redesign with the security overview being a wide box instead of a black panel showing you a large shield icon.

As for the Device Care screen, only the indicator text gets a color according to the state.

One UI 7 used to bring the two shortcuts in the lock screen closer to the center of the screen, as you can see below.

Now, One UI 8 brings them closer to the two edges of the screen, just like what One UI 6.1.1 and earlier brought.

Now, let’s document the Scroll and Translate feature that we got through the One UI 8.0 update. When you initiate translation in a specific screen (website, app, and more), you can now effortlessly scroll and translate without having to close and open Circle to Search again and again.

When you scroll down, what is shown on the screen will be translated.

One UI 7 used to show you the live notification details in the middle of the screen, just like this.

Now, starting with One UI 8, the details will show closer to the upper left corner of the screen.

One UI 8 also suggests wallpapers for you, and places the suggestions to its own area.

When you tap on Suggested images, you’ll be able to see all suggested images below:

When you click on one of the suggestions, you’ll be taken to a screen where you edit the lock screen prior to applying the wallpaper. Afterwards, the wallpaper is set.

You can also change your wallpaper to the dynamic image as in below:

Once set, the wallpaper changes its color over time. There is a new animated clock style in One UI 8 that is a bit different to what One UI 7 provides.

Along with all the clock styles, comes the adaptive clock style that you can use with the picture of either a person or an animal.

It works with all styles that use the selected font style for your clock. Depending on the picture, the adaptive clock automatically chooses the best position, but you can choose it manually. The result of the above configuration is shown below.

Depending on the wallpaper, you have more options for the color palettes.

The adaptive clock also works with LockStar, and it allows you to be even more flexible with the clock style.

Once done, the lock screen will look similar to this:

Of course, whatever is on a subject, as long as it includes a picture of either a person or an animal, will be considered a subject for the adaptive clock to adapt to. For example, a laptop in the below picture is considered to be a subject.

The result will look similar to the below picture.

This also works with pictures that are meant to be used with phones, but the space for the adaptive clock is rather limited. For example, take a picture of a woman holding her headphones.

The result looks similar to below:

However, the adaptive clock doesn’t work with subjects that are neither a person nor an animal, such as buildings or abstract wallpapers.

Folders now have a very nice transparent background, with a brighter border that makes it even more beautiful.

As for the predictive back gestures, you can turn it on by going to Settings > Advanced settings > Labs > Back swipe preview. Make sure that your navigation bar is set to use gestures instead of buttons, because the predictive back gestures depend on the gestural navigation to work.

Once done, you should be able to see a preview of the screen you’ll go back to, though it depends on an application.

That’s all for this showcase. Your Galaxy Tab S8 should be able to update to One UI 8 as it’s already released. Next, we will test our .NET applications with One UI 8.0 to ensure that we give proper support.

To obtain the update, perform the following steps:

  • Open the Settings app
  • Navigate to Software Updates
  • Tap on Download and Install
  • Wait until you see One UI 8 at the top of the page, then tap on Download
  • Wait for the download to complete, then tap on Install
  • After you perform the above steps, your tablet will be running One UI 8 based on Android 16, and you can enjoy its new features and with many improvements on place. This makes sure that your experience gets improved.

If you still didn’t get the update for your device, wait for a few days or a few weeks, then check for updates again. If you still see “Your software is up to date,” this means that the update didn’t reach your region yet.

Note that the update process may take 15 to 20 minutes, and this can vary from device to device. The download process may incur extra charges if you’re using the cellular network as the update size is around 3 GB, depending on the device, so we recommend downloading it through Wi-Fi. Never interrupt the update process in any way, or problems may occur. Make sure that your tablet gets charged before you initiate the installation process.

State of Our Projects and One UI 8

Our projects currently support Android devices that are running at least Android 7 using the ARM64 processor, with our testing targets being Android 15. Samsung devices are the most compatible with our projects, as we are currently testing our projects in One UI 7.0.

Earlier, we have updated the BassBoom documentation to reflect the state of broken PulseAudio in One UI 6.1 or higher when it’s loaded without the required LD_PRELOAD environment variable to load the OpenSL library. We have tested our projects in the following environments:

    • One UI 5.1
    • One UI 5.1.1
    • One UI 6.0
    • One UI 6.1
    • One UI 6.1.1
    • One UI 7.0

For those who are running One UI 8 and are planning to run our projects, we are not providing official support for this version of One UI yet, as we are still making conductive tests. Once we officially confirm that our projects work flawlessly with One UI 8, we will begin providing support for Android 16 users.

For devices other than Samsung (Google Pixel, Huawei, Xiaomi, etc.), we are not officially providing support, as each manufacturer could have different mechanisms of the Android operation, and what works on Samsung devices might not work on others.

BONUS: If you can’t run or build our .NET projects on Android due to signal 9, unlock developer options (About phone/tablet > Software information > tap on Build Number 7 times), then go to Developer Options, and turn on “Disable Child Process Restrictions.”

The download process may incur extra charges if you’re using the cellular network as the update size is around 5 GB, depending on the device, so we recommend downloading it through Wi-Fi. Never interrupt the update process in any way, or problems may occur. Make sure that your tablet gets charged before you initiate the installation process.

Google Play System Update (October 2025) rolls out for Samsung devices

Google Play System Update was a feature that was introduced for devices that ship with Android 10 or newer. It’s mandatory for device manufacturers that plan to release their devices with Android 10 to support Google Play System Updates. As a result, non-Google devices, such as Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets released with Android 10 (One UI 2.1), can receive such updates, too.

These updates don’t require security updates from the manufacturer to work, as Project Mainline modules work independently to give you better experience with Android phones and tablets.

On October 28th, a new Google Play System Update has been pushed to Samsung devices. This update upgrades your Project Mainline modules to the October 1st, 2025 version. This update weighs around 49 MB.

To be able to get this version, follow these steps:

  • Go to your device’s settings
  • Open the security settings
  • Find “Google Play System Update” and tap on it
  • If everything goes OK, you should see the below update dialog:
  • Click on Download and Install, wait for it to download, then reboot your device by clicking on the blue Restart button. The next time your device boots up, the revised update gets installed, so it’s going to take about 3 minutes maximum to install all the updates.

There is no progress bar, so don’t panic if it looks stuck. Your device will eventually boot up. Now, open your settings app and check your Google Play System Update. If everything is well, you should see October 1st, 2025 below the appropriate button.

In case your device didn’t receive the update, wait for a few days, and it will be available shortly.

Stay tuned for the November patch of 2025!
