VOTE YES on Question 5 to ensure that tipped workers receive the full minimum wage, with tips on top. The tipped wage in MA is $6.75 per hour, with an expectation that employers ensure that all workers get a full minimum wage after tips. But #WageTheft is common. The power imbalance of a heavy reliance on tipping leads to high rates of sexual harassment. In states with a #OneFairWage model, workers have greater take-home pay, strong tipping rates continue, & the restaurant industry thrives. 4/4

Benjamin Trumbull, Connecticut Congregationalist, considers Christianity. It has lessened savagery in war, and caused “funds” to be available for the poor. All of these come from the same benign source.

But perhaps you know churchy people who oppose all these trends which Trumbull celebrates. Or fussing on these. I say you have in no way proven him wrong.

How can you offer mercy to those who oppose you, and aid the distressed?

The #ChicagoCityCouncil today voted to abolish the #TwoTier #wages system, which allowed employers to pay sub-minimum wage, on the expectation that workers would make up that difference from customers tips.

Beginning July 2024, the #SubMinimumWage will gradually increase over the next five years, until it is on par with #Illinois state's #MinimumWage of $15.80/hour.

For employees, tipping means a ridiculous $2.13 per hour. $2.13!!!
For employers, tipping is a GRIFT routinely used for #WageTheft.
For consumers, tipping is a TRICK that hides the true price tag.
Furthermore it's a TAX on politeness. Being nice directly costs more money than being an asshole. Why should a civilization want that?
Most of the world has abandoned the tipped wage as the plutocratic scam it is.
