Do you know what an #Octobass is?
It is an extraordinarily large string instrument that looks like an oversized double bass with three strings. It is 3,45m tall and weighs around 100kg and its so ridiculously large that the instrument includes a podium for the player to stand on.
The Octobass first successfully featured in 1855 in Gounods "Messe solennelle en l’honneur de Sainte-Cécile" and you can see, hear (and feel) this monster in a recent performance of the hr symphony orchestra. Benedictus starting at 38:48 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkYPwbeh9VM

🎻🐘 Behold the Octobass! The instrument that plays notes so low, only dogs and confused whales can appreciate the symphony. Meanwhile, humans nod in intellectual pretense, pretending to hear something profound. 🙉🎶

Consider the #octobass : an instrument invented by the French luthier Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, which is around 3,8 metres tall (the chap has to stand on a plinth to play it and use a set of pedals to operate the frets as they would otherwise be too high up..)
