Spring shoots – but not just any spring shoots. They are called "kerkkä" in Finnish and it refers specifically to spring shoots of the Norway spruce, not any other tree. They are edible and rich in vitamin C. Yep, eating conifer shoots isn't probably the first thing that comes to mind though.

A small detail in the woods earlier this month. I noticed a spruce branch touching the trunk of a silver birch by chance one day while I was walking home. I snapped a photo and then forgot it until today. It's simple, but I quite like it actually.

I often try to spot small details in the forest, but I don't know how this tiny Norway spruce had escaped my attention – until today. Guess who has walked by that spot for years...

Are there any botanists out there? Is this spruce a seedling or a sapling? It was difficult to photograph, as you might expect. The spruce kept disappearing into the chaotic background until I managed to get this photo by shooting wide open. It turned out alright, but I wish there was snow.

Dear Friends,
This Great Horned Owl snoozes in a #NorwaySpruce tree. It's an extreme crop, not terribly sharp, still a lovely thing to notice and share with you on this frosty mid-winter morning. Today, it will remain below 0 (celsius) all day except for those sheltered spots where the sun can work its everyday miracles.

Good morning from #bugey #france. Here’s my #norwayspruce #forest created using #dalle #aiart #ai. #autumn
@William_1170 Are your #NorwaySpruce in Haut #Bugey being killed by spruce bark beetle? Lost about 20% here. And because it's illegal to burn we have to pay to have felled trees carted away. Sigh. #Comté is my absolute favourite #cheese. #France
The most beautiful Norway spruce mutation I’ve ever seen. A genetic mutation caused the young shoot Color turning red instead of the usual sap green. I would be very happy to have one like this in my yard. #norwayspruce #forestry #mutation
