How likely is Northern Powerhouse Rail to go ahead?
https://www.southyorkshire-ca.gov.uk/news/article/northern-powerhouse-rail
Absolutely wonderful news.
The comments from the hard of thinking on the Facebook share, on the other hand, make me shudder for the future.
What we have is a huge investment both in rail and tram infrastructure throughout South Yorkshire improving reliability, speeds, increasing electrification and providing an additional station for Rotherham where two lines come together (the obvious location for a railway interchange - see photo).
So what do those with the mental capacity of a hotdog sausage think?
🔸The station is in the wrong place. It should be in the town centre" (see stations : Rotherham station)
🔸 We've already got Masborough Station (which closed in 1987 when Rotherham Central opened)
🔸 The trams hardly get used (try finding a seat during rush hour on a tram, or when there's an event on at the arena, or even when there's a football match on)
It's the typical scenario with the UK to be honest. An improvement to a service is announced and all the people who never use the service chime in about what is there already is absolutely fine (despite them never using it) and how we should spend the money on the roads. Always roads.
Oh and keeping small boats out.
Make sure you stick a 🏴🏴🏴🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 at the end, just so we can all remember what our flags look like.

Guess who's going to be getting another Northern Rail complementary return ticket.
20 minutes and counting stuck at a signal in Trafford Park..
Still, we don't need to invest in additional rail capacity in the Northwest, do we.
Five months ago, Rachel Reeves made a promise - but we're still waiting for more
One hour to get taxi.
Two hours on public transport.
Shared taxi gonna work out cheaper and faster.
I have probably been out the UK too long.
I am foolishly contemplating taking the train from Manchester (airport) to Leeds for a meeting next week.
National rail inform me it will take at least 2 hours and cost anything from £10 to £40..
Half the trains have been replaced by buses.
It's 79km.
I could cycle it in about 4 hours.
#NorthernPowerhouse was just a big lie, wasn't it...
Northern Powerhouse Rail is not dead. This why that matters so much to Greater Manchester
