@TarkabarkaHolgy I found this one a few years ago in a secondhand store. It's made of heavy cardboard. Once it was a St*rb*cks calendar first released in 2006, but now we use it for our own nefarious purposes! There's room in each little drawer for a candy or chocolate or small lump of coal (hee), or a short note suggesting some public service or fun winter activity. When we've taken each treat out and turned the drawer around to the other side, it shows a holiday winter scene. Fun! #AdventCalendar #NormalizeNostalgia
Bonus photo: Brigadier, the visiting void floof, naps under the tree. This has suddenly become the in place for the cats to hang out. #NormalizeNostalgia
This little tree isn't perfect. There's not a single new item on it this year. No doubt influencers and CEOs alike would tut at its straw simplicity. But we don't decorate for them. This tree is just for us, and we love it. Plus it's 100% Millie-approved! 5/5 #NormalizeNostalgia
Our straw star is getting old, and if we can't spruce it up a bit, this may be its last year. Still love it, though. 4/ #NormalizeNostalgia
Since my family background is Scandinavian, you will find a traditional Yulebuck or two hidden in the branches here and there. 3/ #NormalizeNostalgia

Our household celebrates Christmas. Any time after American Thanksgiving is fair game to put up the tree.

This is our little fake tree. We bought it in 2007 and have been using it ever since. The lights are little white incandescent strings because we like the soft glow. Some ornaments were gifts from friends, but most came from IKEA. Some years we put up Swedish flag garlands; other years we don't. We have used these little paper and straw ornaments for a good decade, replacing them only as they get shabby. The "tree skirt" is actually an old tablecloth my mom sewed in college. 2/ #NormalizeNostalgia

#DeathRattleCapitalism is always pushing us to purchase, purchase, purchase, never taking time to pause and enjoy what we have.

For our end of year #holidays, I'm going to focus on something different. I intend to #NormalizeNostalgia. Feel free to #JoinIn if you would like to participate. 1/

@nat I think I'mma do a few #NormalizeNostalgia posts after Thanksgiving where we show off the same tree we've owned since 2007 and other holiday decor we've used every year since we got hitched in 1993.
