@beasts I stick by the walled garden assertion. They have justified it as securing email, but I don't believe that to be the motivator behind the scenes. As the saying goes "follow the money". There's no real benefit to Google in securing anyone. Dragging the world into a playing field under their control, however...

Ah... I see @[email protected] has joined #threads. If he enables #Fediverse / #ActivityPub federation, I (and others) could follow him. He should be able to turn it on since he's in North America (whereas Codes can't in Australia, yet).
