These are not incompatible goals.
Yes, Law Enforcement Officers must be required to identify themselves at all times by clearly displaying name, agency, and badge number. We need to know who we are dealing with, and it should not be so easy for random people to imitate law enforcement officers.
But they should be wearing respirator masks. The fact that more Immigration officers have died of Covid-19 than of any other cause since 2021 has been cited as indicating that despite their claims they are not subject to violence from immigrants or other members of the public. That's true and important.
But it also indicates that they are disease vectors! They interact with many members of the public and thus have a high chance of contracting and spreading illnesses. LEOs should be wearing high filtration respirators (like N95s, not cloth gaiters, which offer negligible protection against disease).
The Covid-19 pandemic continues: the WHO ended the public health emergency, but notes that "This does not mean the pandemic itself is over."
Influenza is spreading, and people are more vulnerable to other illness because covid (even when asymptomatic) causes immune damage.
ICE officers are sickening enough already. Putting respirators on them would be a win for anyone breathing in their vicinity.
That liberals and progressives think a mask ban is a good idea only shows the extent to which health fascism has succeeded in confusing and misleading the public about public health.
