In the 1990’s, Richard Serra’s large steel sculptures often served as punching bags for the New York press. He installed Schunnemunk Fork at the Storm King Art Center in 1990 and 1991. It’s a multi-piece work that reveals the contours of the landscape beautifully. On the way back from the beach, I stopped at the burying ground to shoot some film with the Nikonos. The oldest engraved headstone is dated 1718, but there are plain field stones that mark graves from a time closer to Elizabeth Feake Hallet's purchase of the point in 1640.
