Untersucht wird das Schreiben einer antiochenischen Synode wenige Monate vor dem Konzil von #Nicaea (325), das sich ausschließlich in syrischer Übersetzung erhalten hat. Kern des vorliegenden Buchs ist die Neuedition des Textes auf gegenüber bisherigen Ausgaben deutlich erweiterter handschriftlicher Basis. In einem ausführlichen Kommentar, der den neu edierten Text unter philologischen, theologie- und kirchengeschichtlichen Gesichtspunkten erschließt, wird die Authentizität des Schreibens verteidigt. Die Ergebnisse des Kommentars erlauben schließlich eine Neubewertung der Ereignisabfolge und -dynamik in den Monaten vor dem Konzil von #Nicaea.
