"World ‘unprepared’ for next pandemic as countries fail to agree on sharing information, tests and vaccines"
“If a new pathogen emerged today, the world remains largely unprepared for it.”
I often think about this! Especially if I have to go to the dentist or doctor. It's like: people, you could've taken the tip from covid and upgraded your air quality and airborne infection control, but you're not gonna, are you? You're just going to wait till the next one kicks off, and then be starting almost from scratch again like last time.
H5N1 flu is airborne, and I wouldn't be astonished if that gained human to human transmission soon. But there's lots of possibilities.
(Actually, H5N1 probably does have human transmission now I think, but only at high viral load - there was one case report where a mother seems to have caught it from her sick child after extended close proximity caring for the child, and the mother had no known contact with poultry. But I mean like, if it learnt to go human-to-human at levels similar to say measles. We'd be in a pickle then.)
If the next one is airborne again, at least _some_ of us will know what to do :-/
