A ★★★½ review of Next Exit (2022)

A fascinating little sci-fi road trip movie with a couple of great performances from Katie Parker and Rahul Kohli, Karen Gillan giving her best Elizabeth Holmes deep voice American accent, and a nice little iZombie reunion. Enjoyed it.

#NextExit on #Hulu is a Dramatic Romantic Comedy (#DromCom).

From meet cute, to disdain turned to true love, it hits all of the major genre cliches.

What redeems this from being insufferable garbage is the thing that brings these two people together.

Ultimately, it's the gradual exploration of the traumas that have put these characters on their shared path that liberates this from its tropes.

The seemingly insurmountable past is almost never, so please, stay.

Next Exit’s two main problems are 1) someone else already made this movie five years ago and called it The Discovery, and 2) The Discovery sucked like a motherfucker, so that not only is Next Exit a sort of unofficial remake (or, to put it more bluntly, a shameless rip-off), but it does nothing to improve upon the source material.
