When I first discovered #NewBabylon as everyone else in the community, by accident, while hungrily reviewing the new achievements, I honestly expected it to be the capital city of the Terrans—with all that implied.

The name alone suggested as much, an homage to New Atlantis as much as to the ancient Mesopotamian Empire. And it’s not like there wasn’t precedent. Shattered Space added Dazra to the game, after all.

There’s nothing really wrong with it, of course, it’s a whole new settlement, minor faction, and quest-line, with disturbing plot-twists and reveals, and the tough choices you’re forced with at every step.

And as for the real reason the settlement took its name? You’ll find that in the community centre that looks like a ziggurat.

Constant and his views of the future, a New Babylon.

New Babylon is an anti-capitalist city perceived and designed in 1959-74 as a future potentiality by visual artist Constant Nieuwenhuys.
