It's a very obvious metaphor for the senseless and relentless destruction of everything (good) that has “grown” in the course of the development of a democracy. The trunk with its roots would be the constitution, the branches various achievements such as the abolition of slavery, civil rights...
Watch while this "democracy" is teared down to build a golden ballroom, which is nothing less than a symbol of a #newaristocracy .
