Gold Sport has now become iHeartCountry NZ 🎸

The new sport commentary schedule is on Newstalk ZB's website, which is very right-wing so I won't be linking to it lol. In the netball, the radio usually covers the Sunday afternoon match at 4pm. 🏐

Gold Sport radio has ceased to exist – the ANZ Premiership and Super Rugby commentaries will now be on Newstalk ZB.

That follows the recent disruption to Auckland's AM transmitters due to repairs; may well be related:

The Canadian billionaire who is trying to overthrow the NZME board and install himself may have run into an obstacle.

The Takeovers Panel is investigating whether Jim Grenon has been working with others since March 4 in his takeover bid. If so, he'd be in breach of listing rules and may have to offload the 1.2 million shares traded after that date.

We really don't need creepy RW billionaires buying our news media.

Reading in this morning's Waikato Times that the #FreeSpeechUnion "encouraged billionaire Jim Grenon’s investment in the #NZME media group" reminded me that I wanted to join #InternetNZ.

In NZ media news, Stuff reported the other day that NZME had been trying to buy Stuff newspapers but that fell through when right-wing billionaire Jim Grenon made his move to replace NZME's board.

Once again, billionaires have started buying chunks of what's left of the formal news media in Aotearoa;

In more bad news for local media, NZME plans to close 14 of its community papers, that's all but two of their North Island mastheads.

Rising costs & dwindling advertising revenue are to blame, but smaller communities need local news and Facebook is no substitute.

Aside: Why do so many companies lay off staff just before Christmas?

NZME is sacking 12 jobs from regional newsrooms.

Some newsrooms will no longer have dedicated visual journalists shooting still photos and video. NZME says the remaining regional journalists will be “upskilled” so they can take photos as well as write stories.

Sure! Cos any fool can shoot news stories, can't they?

Monkeys with typewriters.
