How do Major Deegan, the slave-holding Van Courtlands, and #climatejustice intersect in the Bronx? Check out this #HappyEcoNews blog post I co-wrote with CUNY Law 3L Jaclyn Spencer about daylighting #TibbettsBrook. It is an important #NewYorkCity #greeninfrastructure, #climatejustice, and #environmentaljustice story. Yet another example of how writing #NamingGotham enriched my #environmental scholarship. #history #NYC #NYCDEP @history @histodons
Daylighting Tibbetts Brook: Green infrastructure as both a climate and environmental win On September 21, 2021, Hurricane Ida dumped more than seven inches of rain on New York City. At the height of the storm, three inches of rain fell in a single hour.
@KevinFreitas Its too bad that #NYCParks doesn't believe in permeable pavement. They are still using asphalt where they could use permeable grid pavers.
At least #NYCDEP understands permeable pavement. Maybe #NYCDOT can get on board.
#GridPavers
Last I heard NYC Parks didn't believe in porous pavement.

The #NYCDEP Wait... App will let you know when to flush and when to, well, wait, based on your location!
