#EroticMusings 40: Where/how do you promote your erotica? Is it effective? How do you evaluate that?

I post links to them on the Fedi and Bluesky.

They are not my mainstay, so I don't put lots of effort into promoting them. Given the nature of AO3 and PIXIV, they tend to do well.

I have tried IG and Tumbler but they sucked. Dropped X years ago, all I got was webcam come-ons.

#EroticMusings Week 38 (February 15-21) One-Word Prompt: Mount

Snip from "My Girlfriend Almost Got Me Killed, so We Had Wild Sex":

She mounted her Bergman and continued, “You won’t like this, but we are going right to the temple to see Sensei, and I’m not hiding anything from him. Please don’t ask me to do that.”

“Of course not, but could you keep the explanation general?” If my ears hadn’t already been red from the cold, they would have turned it now. The thought of some stuffy priest hearing about our hijinks was humiliating.

Kao looked like she was going to choke. “Don’t worry, I’ll keep it general unless he asks questions. I’ll say ‘Having accidentally summoned a youkai, we made passionate love to dispel it,’ or should I say ‘We had intercourse?’”

#EroticMusings 35: Porn, romance, erotica, smut, etc.—how do you define and distinguish them? Does it matter?

I have private definitions for these that may or may not align with how others use the words. As such, don’t feel judged if you use a word to describe your writing and my definition clashes with what you do. It’s okay. YMMV

  • Porn: It’s about anatomy and arousal. A verbal vibrator.
  • Erotica: May or may not include graphic sex, but the objective is to excite or arouse you through situation, symbol, or dialogue. The emphasis is on writing, not anatomy.
  • Ecchi: Erotica without explicit sex. Can be humorous.
  • Smut: Low effort/quality porn. However, it may be used as a synonym of porn without reference to quality.

All the above deal with the physical.

  • Romance is about love, and a romance focuses on love and emotional attraction. Any of the above can also be romance or romantic. Though porn and smut seldom are. Erotica often is. Consider a different access on the graph describing a work.

#EroticMusings Week 34 (Jan 18-24st) Characters. Are you especially fond of how any of your characters met? Share their meeting!

Snip from "My Girlfriend Almost Got Me Killed, so We had Wild Sex"

When I didn’t respond, Tanya waved to the maid to bring another round. I was confused. I had been incredibly lonely since my high school senpai had laughed off my confession and told me she had a boyfriend waiting for her at college. But Tanya-chan wasn’t my type. I didn’t know her, and what I knew didn’t impress me. She was rude, manipulative, and thought nothing of breaking rules.

We both jumped when the chair on my other side made a scraping sound. Turning, I saw a tall, long-haired Japanese woman sitting down. I couldn’t help thinking, unlike Tanya-san, she was my type!

#EroticMusings 29. Why are most relationship stories about beginnings? Does your erotica ever explore endings?

Why? Because middles are hard to write. They are slice of life, which many people find boring. Ends because they are depressing.

Me: I try to write the beginning and middle. Middles are interesting and underrepresented. I also write endings; my characters' beginnings are usually the end for someone else. I don't do endings for my characters because, for me, they are sad. I like happy endings. YMMV.

#eroticMusings Week 27 (November 30-December 6) Craft When it comes to reflecting on and assessing your own work, how do you practice self-kindness?

If I am feeling judgmental about something I wrote, usually because I think it's boring. I remind myself it always turns out pretty good in the end.

How is masculinity visually expressed, highlighted, or accessorised in your work or setting?

In my erotic work, not at all. It is all lesbian.

In my current WIP there is a butch lesbian and a Transmasc. So masculinity is blended with traditional feminine traits. I don't spend much time worrying about which traits are yin or yang. A bit about how they dress and some about the things they like to do.

#EroticMusings 25: Does your erotica ever explore chronic or terminal health? 2/2

I enjoyed Crash (1996) and wouldn't mind writing something like it. Though I suspect I would be branded as insensitive.

Crash (1996) is a Canadian erotic thriller film written, produced, and directed by David Cronenberg.

#EroticMusings 25: Does your erotica ever explore chronic or terminal health?

There is a high frequency of anxiety and depressive disorders among my characters. PTSD begins to show up by the end of my series.

They sometimes enter the erotic scenes in the form of the character's desperation for connection and difficulty trusting.

The only physical chronic illness would be prolonged Ghost Sickness.

#EroticMusings 21: What's the most fun you've had with a creepy, spooky, or spoopy scene or setting?

In my incomplete first novel, there is a scene in a haunted amusement park where SX took material form.
