#WordWeavers Apr 6: Can you create a character/place/storyhook/device on the spot, if you need to? If so, share an example.
Small stuff or continuing stuff. Lots of smaller characters just come as needed. Places the same way.
Larger stuff, like plots, takes maybe 15 minutes to an hour of off-computer time, batting things around following stray thoughts. Other things may take weeks or months.
Example: I am working on an #AdachiAndShimamura flash. The idea took about an hour to develop with one false start. "What happens if Adachi is marooned and finds a wish-fulfilling lamp?" I wrote the beginning in Proton Docs in bed after it came to me. That is still where it is, needing completion.
#WritersCoffeeClub 4/6. Do the plots or characters in your work converge towards a single point?
Seeing some of the posts, I think I see a pattern.
No, there are min-arcs. Some are progressive, and others are not. Some arcs finish before the climax. But everything important is wrapped up by the end of the series.
#WritersCoffeeClub 4/6. Do the plots or characters in your work converge towards a single point?
Yes, the end of the novel or series.
I'm not sure what this question was aiming at.
#PennedPossibilities 977 — Have your characters ever travelled outside their country of birth? If so, where did they go, and why did they go there?
Many have been to the States for varying lengths of time. That helps with handwaving cultural glitches I may insert by mistake.
Kakuriyo of course, is not even of this world.
And Bijou from #TimeTravelingGhost has been galavanting all over time and the world. 1920 Paris, 1930 South Pacific and North Atlantic, Jurassic Switzerland, Cretaceous–Paleogene Yucatán, 2025 US, 1912 North Atlantic, and 1999 London. She is well-traveled.
#ScribesAndMakers – 6 Some people have creative work inspired by their dreams. Have you?
All of the following scenes from #KonbiniIdol were inspired by dreams. As a surreal author, dreams are an important inspiration.
#WritersCoffeeClub: How can the physical form of the writing become part of the storytelling?
I refer again to The Passing of Zi Zhen 子真之逝 where I make use of white space as an active part of the story.
#eroticMusings Week 45 (April 5-11) Characters Bunny Week!
Kao: So I just put on bunny ears?
Shiro: And hide eggs.
Kao: That's all?
Shiro: I'm sure we will think of something!
#ScribesAndMakers 5 Could you make a scrapbook accompanying your story?
Sure. An art book would be more likely.
#wordweavers 5 How would the character from Q4 react to being invited?
#Airisu: Ack, ack, ack. You have tastees in your pocket?
