🚀 Excited to see #RISENSE accepted at #MobiSys2025! A game-changer for in-band RIS control via 5G channels—lower cost, energy & seamless integration. Congrats to NEC & IMDEA teams!

Exciting news! Our paper "RISENSE: Long-Range In-Band Wireless Control of Passive Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces" has been accepted for presentation at the prestigious ACM, Association for Computing Machinery MobiSys 2025 conference (California, June 23-27, 2025). Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) hold immense promise for creating smart radio environments. However, their practical integration into cellular networks like 5G has been hindered by challenges, particularly the lack of control interfaces compatible with 5G procedures and the cost/energy constraints of passive RIS. Our work introduces RISENSE to tackle this integration gap. We propose an *in-band* wireless RIS control interface that leverages the existing 5G data channel. This approach enables seamless 5G pipeline integration, significantly reducing energy consumption and cost compared to common out-of-band methods. This is yet another result from a fruitful and long-standing collaboration between NEC Laboratories Europe and IMDEA Networks Institute. Proud of this collaborative achievement with my coauthors Sai Pavan Deram, Marco Rossanese, Syed Waqas Haider Shah, PhD, Vincenzo Sciancalepore, Joerg Widmer and Xavier Costa Pérez, and looking forward to sharing more details soon! #mobisys2025 #RIS #5G #6G #NEC ORIGAMI Project MultiX-6G Project
