It's still winter up in the mountains on northern Vancouver Island. A 4 days of heavy snowfall lead to a spectacular blue sky sunny weekend for backcountry skiing. This weekend is going to have epic conditions for skiing at Mt Cain on Vancouver Island - 30cm of snow yesterday, 20-30cm of snow forecast for Friday night. Sunshine expected for Saturday afternoon and Sunday.
Avalanche conditions in the backcountry will likely be High to Extreme with all that new snow on top of a hard, dense, wet 80cm base from last week's rain.
