The Scilly Isles are off the coast of Cornwall (so the southernmost point of the UK, that's how I ended up there). The climate is very mild (even in late October) and it's a popular summer destination.

It's very picturesque, with lots of islands to explore, and it's been inhabited quite a while, so there's an Iron Age village and Neolithic tombs.

Like many places dependent on tourism, it has economic problems from seasonal/highly fluctuating income, and the need for visitor accommodation competing with the need for local housing.
