Yellow rattle flowering in my mini-meadow! It's taken three years to really establish. I wonder if the drought has helped it a bit as the grass is considerably weakened this year. #allotment #allotmentGarden #meadow #minimeadow #yellowrattle #wildflower
Overheard in #Horsham: “Oh, it’s very pretty. It’s just a weed but I think that’s why they’ve just left it.” Chicory in our #Minimeadow (#Chicorium intybus) #bloomscrolling
The #MiniMeadow is finally doing well after all the wind and rain.
Vipers Bugloss (Echium vulgare) growing in our #MiniMeadow for #WildflowerHour
Couple of flowers for #WildflowerHour - Scarlet Pimpernel (Anagalis arvensis) and Common Vetch (Vicia sativa): the latter in our #MiniMeadow, the former a #PavementPlant growing in a crack at the bottom of a fence.
The #MiniMeadow is also looking great in its 4th year. We mow it and remove the clippings once a year in September, but mostly let it do its thing otherwise: we thin out the thistles, and we added a lot of Yellow Rattle and some Fritillary bulbs but pretty much everything else has arrived on its own. About 40 plant species now, and it attracts solitary bees, damselflies, beetles, bugs, even frogs. It’s on a strip of land that’s part of our deeds but outside the fence for some reason #Gardening
For the inaugural Wildflower Hour on Mastodon (every Sunday 20:00-21:00 UK time) here is a Meadow Buttercup (Ranunculus acris) flowering rather late! Please remember to add an image description when you upload your pictures so that people using screenreaders can also enjoy them, and add hashtags to the end of your post so that people can search for them too 💚 #WildFlowerHour #Buttercup #Ranunculus #MiniMeadow
