My New Old Walkman

Seeing a post about how cool minidisks looked made me go "Yeah! They looked and still look super futuristic to me. That is the kind of medium used to transfer data in cyberpunk settings! I even drew Olivia with one!" ..and noticing I've never uploaded it to Pixelfed..

So here it is! Olivia on her way meeting a client and trying to up the sum for the data she extracted for them. Usually she does not prefer such sexy outfits.. XD

this is probably most useless post you will read today but i will post it anyway: there are 2 groups of retro hardware which continue to haunt me: #x68000 and portable #minidisk players.

Had some fun fixing a Sony #Minidisk MZ-R70. Apparently it got damaged internally and someone tried to repair the "leg" that keeps the main cartridge holder connected to the door with medical tape.

Unfortunately this seized the door closed but also didn't fix the real issue, which was that the door closed button sensor was not anymore pressed due to the damaged piece missing, keeping the device in a perpetual off state..

I removed the tape + cleaned up, fixed the bends on the magnetic head and bypassed the sensor to bring the MD back to life, works for reading MDs but need to test recording.

Seems like it had a long life and was used a lot, structural fatigue on the corners and the battery holder clips are making it flimsy to open/close + the battery pops out sometimes, but hey, why should I complain ? i can fix those later, it is a working Minidisk 🙂

is anyone here a specialist in identifying components? in looking for this limit switch as one of the two on the board is... n't there anymore.
Make would be a huge help on its own, part number / link to a replacement even better ofc ^^
Context: Minidisk drive of a Sony MDS-JE510
Service manuals only list sony part numbers.
(no alt, cuz visuals are kinda needed)
