Ah yes, the riveting tale of resurrecting a dead software feature that approximately 12 people still use 🤡. Micropatching: because why let a perfectly good security risk die with dignity when you can Frankenstein it back to life instead 🧟‍♂️. Microsoft's security concern? Merely a suggestion, apparently 🔒.

I doubt that they will be able to cover a suitably wide range of vulnerabilities to actually keep machines "secure," so that they could be confidently used beyond the official support term. They might be able to cover a few simplistic vulns to "keep their promise," but I can't believe it can be more than just a "placebo effect"...

Welcome to the era of vulnerability micropatching - 0patch

One thing I have a problem understanding is why micropatching isn't more popular. In the case of 0patch [1], it costs $27 per client a year. This should at least be something for the more valuable Windows devices?

Micropatching would reduce the vulnerability surface vs exposure time. Additionally it gives a tactical edge to defenders and an extra layer of defence against threat actors unaware.
