During WW2, the U.S. Playing Card Company created a deck of cards to help Allied prisoners of war escape from German camps. When this Ace of Spades is soaked in water, it separates to reveal a piece of a map inside. The decks helped at least 32 prisoners successfully escape the Colditz Castle POW camp.
Furse established safe houses across Marseilles, one of them in a brothel. Her group was eventually betrayed & she was imprisoned. While in prison, she smuggled money & secreted messages in condoms in her vagina. After her eventual release she returned to London, but as she was well known to the Gestapo her request to return to occupied France was denied. She had 5 children. She died at age 92 on Oct 14, 2002. (2/2)
