The #Meteor of 1860

In 1860, painter Frederic Church and poet Walt Whitman were inspired by a rare Earth-grazing meteor procession. Their works remained disconnected until a team led by Texas State University uncovered historical reports linking the event to both artist and poet, publishing their findings on its 150th anniversary.

A Northern Taurid #meteor and rare aurora were captured in Florida, typically seen at higher latitudes. The display is due to recent geomagnetic storms from solar activity and coronal mass ejections.
