Oh also just a warning. Only because you've a drill does NOT mean any problem of stuff not fitting in needs to be solved using the drill. In fact I should just have unscrewed 4 screws and moved it over by one slot.
What I did, drill two groove into a structural support bar so that the tip of the CPU coolers heat pipes would have enough clearance.
Why do they want 23 Euro for a dumb Connectx-6 slot cover? For that price I'm going to buy a blank one and drill it myself on the CNC...
Fuck you grifters.
Note to self, next time drill the holes before making the 90 degree bend into the metal strip.
Also it is way harder to get the holes exactly at the right location than I thought...
/me not good at metal work and considering to just drill through both pieces of metal instead of trying to drill the holes in one of the two at the right spot...

Of course the dumb metal drill bit has to break now. How should I drill my holes into these pieces of hardened steal now.
(And no, it's definitely not my fault for having previously used them to drill two holes into stone. It is definitely the tools fault, definitely! Trust me I'm an engineer, I know what I'm doing!!!).
Is there a better way to drill counter-sink holes for screws than to "yolo" it?
In context of doing #diy stuff. And I don't have a drill press or similar here either.
How janked would you say is welding a metal bracket to the case instead of trying to source the correct rails for server hardware?
Asking for a friend of course. No server cases or brackets have been harmed (yet).
Oh no. I apparently can't just sand off the rust. I've to "reseal" the metal afterwards.
Apparently after sanding off the rust I've to drench it in acetone followed by heating it up to 300-400C and then quench it in either WD40 or vegetable (cooking) oil.
So uhm, how do you evenly heat rack rails up to 300-400C?
And where do I get a large enough heat resistant container to pore the oil into?
This is way harder than I thought it would be....
