I'm beginning to have some concerns about #MerseyRail's secure #bike storage. My local station's storage hasn't worked (electrical fault, apparently) for as long as I've had my fob. I've just cycled to the next station along and got locked inside the shed! 😬 Luckily there's an emergency exit.

The next station in the other direction doesn't have the little lockable baskets to leave your helmet etc safely.

Such a good idea in theory but with a few snags in practice.

🚈 The #Liverpool City Region Combined Authority is examining how rail services should operate after the current #Merseyrail concession ends in 2028. A report due in March sets out progress to date and highlights the network’s role in supporting an integrated #transport system. It indicates that public ownership could improve links between transport modes and enhance services for passengers, reflecting wider government policy to bring more operators into public control. The authority is being asked to commission a full assessment of options for taking Merseyrail in-house, alongside a delivery plan. A further report will follow. Mayor Steve Rotheram said the aim is a reliable, efficient and affordable network, pointing to investment in buses, ferries, ticketing, active travel and new stations.

Public #transport will be at the centre of major changes across the #Liverpool City Region in 2026. Tap and Go smart ticketing will be fully rolled out on #Merseyrail, allowing passengers to #travel using contactless bank cards and digital wallets, with daily and weekly fare capping to guarantee the lowest price. A pilot is already under way and will expand across the network ahead of full launch. Bus franchising will begin in St Helens and Wirral from September, giving the city region greater control over fares, routes and timetables, with region-wide rollout planned by 2027 and closer integration with rail and other modes. Three new rail stations at Carr Mill, Daresbury and Woodchurch will move into further development, supported by Transport for City Regions funding. Meanwhile, the £26m Royal Daffodil, the first new Mersey Ferry in more than 60 years, is due to enter service, offering increased capacity, full accessibility and cleaner propulsion technology.

A historic moment on this day last year: the last ever run of a 507 under its own power on #Merseyrail, as 507029 and 507003 travel ECS from Southport to Birkenhead North depot for decommissioning. Our member Ross McCall captured this video of the units passing through Hightown.

My #Merseyrail secure #cycle parking key fob arrived yesterday. I was slightly surprised that my application was successful as I was honest about using the #bike + #train option only once a month.

This makes it more tempting to use my bike to get to the station when I would have driven. For example, if I'm arriving home late.
