#transport will be at the centre of major changes across the
#Liverpool City Region in 2026. Tap and Go smart ticketing will be fully rolled out on
#Merseyrail, allowing passengers to
#travel using contactless bank cards and digital wallets, with daily and weekly fare capping to guarantee the lowest price. A pilot is already under way and will expand across the network ahead of full launch. Bus franchising will begin in St Helens and Wirral from September, giving the city region greater control over fares, routes and timetables, with region-wide rollout planned by 2027 and closer integration with rail and other modes. Three new rail stations at Carr Mill, Daresbury and Woodchurch will move into further development, supported by Transport for City Regions funding. Meanwhile, the £26m Royal Daffodil, the first new Mersey Ferry in more than 60 years, is due to enter service, offering increased capacity, full accessibility and cleaner propulsion technology.
