On Wednesday, the 13th of May, 2026, AVOW staff gathered for a Mental Health Breakfast. This year, the theme is ACTION, and AVOW took action to give staff time to talk about their mental health. This simple gathering of staff gave them an opportunity to unwind, and even play games.

Mental Health Week

AVOW takes mental health seriously. Here is the AVOW wellbeing room. A dedicated quiet room for people who need to step away from the stresses of life and work, or who just need a space without people for a moment or two.

What simple ways does your organisation have of improving wellbeing? Let us know in the comments!

The event held multiple mental health workshops which workers participated in for a chance to enter the raffle. The FCJ team got to hand out some raffle prizes to workers and also held an information table at the event, handing out resources regarding our programs. Thank you to everyone who came to speak with us at the event!

Members of the FCJ Refugee Centre's Anti-Human Trafficking team attended the 'Welcome Amigos: Spring BBQ' event in Simcoe, in honour of national mental health week. Agricultural temporary foreign workers in the Simcoe region came from farms nearby to attend the barbecue. The event was supported by community organisations such as TNO, the Huron Farmworkers Ministry, and the Canadian Mental Health Association.

It's #MentalHealthWeek! Photography is one of my mental health anchors. When I can't engage with it for extended periods, I definitely feel the impact on my mental health.

What are your 'anchors'? What grounds you? What offers stability and reprieve from life's stressors? I urge you to make a list of your anchors this week, and identify one that could use some extra intentionality.
