Everyone is panicking over a patient who is reporting a staggered overdose and declining medical intervention. Senior management are telling people to do things that are unlawful and couching it under the term “best interests” and declaring this person to lack #capacity without even assessing her, loudly declaring that she must lack capacity if she wants to die.

This goes directly against the first principle of the #MentalCapacityAct which declares that capacity must always be assumed to be present until assessed otherwise.

The reason they are suddenly interested in this patient is because she is live streaming herself taking overdoses 4x daily, and on each video she is tagging the Trust.

They are making all kinds of assumptions about this patient and issuing directives to staff on what they must do, and these directives are shockingly unlawful.

So after being directed to do something on my first shift back that I was uncomfortable with, I did the unthinkable: I went to see her.

What do you get if you cross an electrician and a psychiatric nurse practitioner? Inadequate care for vulnerable people. At least that’s the case here.
