I read somewhere about how, during the #dinosaur #fossil-hunting craze, #megalosaur was used as a "dustbin genus": any species which didn't fit elsewhere was stuffed under "megalosaur".

Does anyone have references on that? I'm writing a piece (about folklore, but mentioning this tangentially).
