Good read on the Neflix "transformation" and media wars now underway! A couple of highlights - paraphrased!
1) Netflix turned entertainment into a capital intensive arms race; “good enough content for everyone, everywhere, backed by unprecedented spending", and leveraging a delivery system that scales globally with next to zero incremental cost.
2) Tech giants are entering the media space due to ulterior motives including: subscriber retention, ecosystem lock-in, data acquisition, and increasingly, AI model training. For the tech giants content isn’t the end product, it’s a strategic input.
3) The feature film - let's go out to the movies ecosystem - continues to erode, something valuable may be lost that money alone can’t replace.
4) The rights negotiations for the NFL coming in 2026 will catalyze partnerships aka will drive shotgun weddings as outlets align to get/keep a piece of the NFL action.
