Bouncing on this idea and had the thought, what if municipal Mastodon instances were run by your local libraries? Hardware and hosting by the provincial consortium and then local admin duties shared by staff?
To pitch it you'd probably need a fully priced out setup guide and a bit of training ready to go out the gate.
Hey Saskapeeps!
We want to convince politicians and governments at all levels to get their asses over on the fediverse, yeah?
One other step will be to prove to them that we're here waiting for em.

I signed, and so can you!
This is a step, proving there's a want for municipalities to consider open social media in their communications. Should be easy enough to repeat on a town by town basis and see if traction can translate to larger cities. Let's do this!
Similarily, here's my city of Saskatoon's chosen platforms for essential dispatches. Yelling into the void while a good bunch of their potential audience is over here 🤷♂️

Working on a spreadsheet, because I'm that kind of a nerd. Would you look at all these essential city services and information channels that rely on american oligarch owned platforms? Anyone in Regina feeling a little ignored by your city?

To provide the best possible communication, the City of Regina uses social media to provide updates, awareness and correspondence on everything City related. Connect with your civic services on social media. Stay informed and updated on the latest news related to City of Regina services, programs and operations.

This #Plushtodon, a recent immigrant to Canada, is checking out our Mastodon feed. How did they get my password?
They are excitedly looking for updates on how our community is convincing politicians to dump U.S. based social media and join the #Fediverse. It's almost like they have a vested interest in your activities and efforts. Hmm....

I really, really wish my friends in the #SaskNDP were posting these to open social networks. Jordan McPhail does such a great job here but it is, like, physically painful to click through to Facebook to watch it

Help me solve the puzzle... Why won't the SaskParty debate our bills on the floor of the legislature?? Let's recap this week in the Sask Legislature. #skpoli #SaskNDP #TimeForChange #SaskParty
Over the course of today, at a leisurely rate, I think we'll do a roundup of European efforts regarding #DigitalSovereignty and #DigitalIndependance. Europe and Canada have both struggled with this issue, but it's fair to say our allies across the Atlantic have been far more progressive and Digital Sovereignty has far more awareness with citizens and individual governments.
