Ended Tuesday and welcomed Wednesday with Kismet (subtitled A Jazz Interpretation by the Mastersounds) an album by The Mastersounds led by vibraphonist Buddy Montgomery with pianist Richie Crabtree, bassist Monk Montgomery and drummer Benny Barth along with guitarist Wes Montgomery featuring performances of tunes originally composed by Alexander Borodin and adapted by Robert Wright and George Forrest for the musical Kismet. The album was recorded in 1958 and released on the World Pacific label.

The Allmusic review by Matthew Greenwald stated: "Overall, an excellent jazz reading of one of the most beloved musicals ever and also an important historical record for Wes Montgomery fans". - Wikipedia

Bereits im Juni gab der britische Hersteller MasterSounds bekannt, dass er sich aus dem DJ-Mixer-Markt zurückziehen wird. Als jemand, der die Nachricht erst jetzt mitbekommen hat, bin ich ein bisschen schockiert und ehrlich gesagt, auch etwas traurig. MasterSounds stand für Qualität, analoges Design und eine Hingabe, die man heutzutage nicht mehr oft sieht.

Für diejenigen, die bereits einen Mixer besitzen, ist das natürlich ein Glücksfall – sie haben jetzt ein seltenes Stück Geschichte in ihrem Setup. Aber für alle anderen, die vielleicht überlegt haben, sich einen zuzulegen, sieht die Sache anders aus. Die Preise könnten bald in die Höhe schießen, und was einst vielleicht erreichbar war, wird jetzt wohl eher ein Sammlerstück.

Das Ganze hinterlässt ein mulmiges Gefühl. Ein Hersteller weniger auf dem Markt, der für seine Liebe zum Detail und zur analogen Technik bekannt war. Es bleibt nur zu hoffen, dass andere Boutique-Marken diesen Ansatz weiterführen und die Magie von Geräten wie den MasterSounds-Mixern bewahren.
