Always a shame to see someone get eliminated due to stuffing up. I mean, rather than cooking really well but everyone else just cooking really REALLY well.

I like watching people be good at things. It's a shame that those who stuff up don't get to stay on and learn more. But oh well, it's a gameshow at the end of the day, right?

#MasterChefAU

Hm. Watching #MasterChefAU ep 9.

Latkes aren't just "eastern European", they're Ashkenazi Jewish. And I believe they're traditionally fried in chicken fat (schmaltz), not olive oil.

Bit of a shame to just elide that.

I love how in this season on #MasterChefAU when they get up to the tastings, and they're quickly going through all the ones they haven't actually been showing us the progress of, it's totally different to early seasons.

In ages past, these little tasting snippets would be along the lines of "yeah, it was okay, but you ought to have done xyz to improve it, good effort" middle-of-the-road stuff. But by now there are so many god-tier cooks that the brief snippets are all like "that was the best food I've ever eaten, incredible, thanks" and then on to the next one!

The middle-of-the-road is "holy shit that food was mindblowing"! And this is just episode 6 in the season! The standard of cooking is just orders of magnitude higher than in the old days.

It's just such a delight. It's great to see people doing what they love, doing it damn well, and being recognised for it. Doing it so well, in fact, that there isn't enough air time to feature each and every one of them.

In the old days they were learning and growing and struggling and coming out the other side accomplished cooks. By now, they're all knocking the judges' socks off from day 1, and doing it consistently! Incredible!

Why does #MasterChefAU cut to an electric guitar before Jimmy Barnes coming in? Bloke's a singer, not a guitarist! Everyone knows that, right?

(For our overseas friends: this is the guy from the "screaming cowboy in the sky" meme. He's a celebrated rock singer).

Nice guitar, though

E: aw, and only tasting 10 people's food is a bit lame. Taste all of it!

Okay, tell me the #MasterChefAU soundtrack doesn't sound like Stellaris.
