I might be the weirdo with a mask but I'm also the weirdo who (to the best of my knowledge) has not had covid yet.

The Ministry of Health says variant BA.2.86 (#Pirola) has been detected in New Zealand.
If you are already being careful, keep it up.
If you are not, it's a good time to get back to masking.
Official messaging is that Pirola is not more infectious or dangerous than other variants, but leaves out that it is immuno evasive as it is a whole new branch of mutation and represents an evolutionary leap.
It's good to avoid disease.
I work in a newsroom full of "serious journalists".
There's 2 of us still regularly wearing a respirator in a team totaling about 120-ish.
Lots of coughing though.
It's not lack of information.
It's willful ignorance.
It's denial.
I believe that when you visit the doctor you should be healed from your ailments.
Not pickup the latest versions of the top 20 current infectious diseases.
I guess that makes me a radical. 😷✊🏽

Yes my mask means I don't want to catch #COVID19.
But more importantly,
It means I don't want to *give* anyone else Covid-19.
It means I believe all of our full, healthy lives are worth more than a tiny bit of personal inconvenience.
If people who had #covid are now considered more vulnerable,
And those who haven't had covid, have avoided it by acting like they were already vulnerable,
Then everyone is vulnerable.
