Human-made space junk accumulates on Mars, with a map revealing the locations of debris from spacecraft that have landed on the planet over the past 53 years. The debris includes metal landing equipment, heat shields, used parachutes, rotor blades, drill bits, and fabric netting.
Estimates suggest around 15,694 pounds (7,123 kilograms) of human trash on Mars. The issue highlights the need for future missions to Mars to be designed with sustainability in mind, potentially avoiding the creation of additional debris.
