La sua data di nascita è stata registrata ufficialmente nel Livre des Origines Français, il registro francese dei cani di razza: Lazare è nato il 4 dicembre 1995. Stiamo parlando di uno Spaniel nano continentale che potrebbe essere il cane più anziano del mondo. In effetti, 30 anni compiuti sono tantissimi per il migliore amico dell’uomo anche e soprattutto considerando che la sua razza ha un’aspettativa media di circa 15 anni.
La storia di Lazare arriva dalla Francia ed è stata raccontata da diversi media internazionali, compreso il New York Post. Quando il proprietario di Lazare e morto, lui è stato accolto dal rifugio SPA Annecy Marlioz, nell’Alta Savoia. Ed è lì che gli operatori hanno deciso di verificare quanti anni avesse quel piccolo cane dal pelo bianco e marrone, le grandi orecchie e la lingua sempre un po’ penzolante fuori dalla bocca.
Il microchip ha portato direttamente ai documenti ufficiali e alla conferma della data di nascita: “Abbiamo effettuato un doppio controllo. Non ci possono essere dubbi”, ha spiegato Anne-Sophie Moyon, responsabile del rifugio. Ora la Société Protectrice des Animaux ha avviato la procedura per chiedere il riconoscimento ufficiale al Guinness World Records. Nel frattempo Lazare ha trovato anche una nuova casa. Ad adottarlo è stata Ophélie Boudol che ha 29 anni e che quindi è più giovane del suo cane: “Tra noi è nato subito un legame. Era impensabile che finisse la sua vita in un rifugio”, ha raccontato all’emittente francese TF1.
Le condizioni di salute di Lazare sono inevitabilmente quelle di un cane molto anziano: soffre di artrite, sente poco e vede male. Ma, raccontano dal rifugio e dalla sua nuova proprietaria, continua a seguire le persone in casa, dorme molto ed è ancora presente a ciò che lo circonda. La vicenda arriva inoltre dopo il caso di Bobi, il cane portoghese a cui era stato assegnato il titolo di più anziano del mondo salvo poi vederselo revocare dal Guinness dopo verifiche sui documenti relativi alla sua età. Al momento, quindi, il record ufficiale appartiene ancora a Bluey, un Australian cattle dog morto nel 1939 a 29 anni.

We are talking about a Continental Spaniel who could be the oldest dog in the world. Indeed, 30 years old is a huge number for man’s best friend, especially considering that his breed has an average lifespan of about 15 years.
The story of Lazare comes from France and has been told by several international media outlets, including the New York Post. When Lazare’s owner died, he was welcomed by the SPA Annecy Marlioz refuge in the Haute-Savoie region. And it was there that the staff decided to verify how old that little dog with white and brown fur, large ears, and a tongue always slightly hanging out of its mouth was.
The microchip led directly to the official documents and the confirmation of the birth date: “We carried out a double check. There is no doubt about it,” explained Anne-Sophie Moyon, the refuge manager. Now the Société Protectrice des Animaux has initiated the procedure to request official recognition from Guinness World Records. In the meantime, Lazare has also found a new home. Ophélie Boudol, who is 29 years old, adopted him, making her younger than her dog: “There was an immediate bond between us. It was unthinkable that his life would end in a refuge,” she told the French TF1 broadcaster.
Lazare’s health condition is inevitably that of a very old dog: he suffers from arthritis, hears little, and sees poorly.
