My modest haul from the Manila Pen Show 2026 - an Opus 88 Mini Cherry Blossom eyedropper pen, Vinta Romblon ink (a high-contrast black, my mom's daily driver), and Vinta Ermita (a mustardy gold with gold shimmer), my guilty pleasure.

I am home from volunteering at the Manila Pen Show 2026. The first day was crazy! I think we had 1800 people today! The ballroom was huge and there were like 70+ vendors, and so many people milling about. We volunteers ate lunch late, were powered by coffee, and adrenaline. Now I am worn out, but happy. Yes, I got my Opus 88 Mini Sakura pen, and a couple of Vinta inks. And was gifted a pen wrap. So much fun, but I'm tired and feel my age.

Hey fountain pen nerds (affectionate) if you went to the #ManilaPenShow please post your pix with the hashtag so we can see them! Don’t forget the alt text 😉

Diamine Blue Orient, a turquoise with red sheen, was a limited edition ink first issued exclusively for Fountain Pen Network-Philippines' 10th anniversary in 2018. Due to popular demand, a slightly more saturated reformulation has returned and will be available at the Manila Pen Show 2025! Proceeds from the sale of Diamine Blue Orient will all go to Save The Children, which the Manila Pen Show has been supporting since 2018.

Kasama Pens, in a partnership with Kustom Magz Creations, offers the Kasama Tala in Ultem and PEEK with Brass Filigree fountain pens at the Manila Pen Show 2025. The overlay is beautiful and was executed by metal artist Marco Kris Magallona. It is based on the Filipino creation myth of the first man and woman, Malakas (Strength) and Maganda (Beauty). Kasama on Instagram: "Linikha: "Created" Welcoming a new partnership with Marco (@kustommagz ) with this epic first project. We decided to execute what was one of the first pen projects we worked on back in 2017, during the early days of Kasama. The filipino folk tale of creation, whereafter God created the world, the winds caused great storms and formed our islands. And on it, a great bird cracks open a piece of bamboo, revealing two beings: one who is strong (malakas), the other, beautiful (maganda). The first humans. These two are said to be  the Filipino versions of Adam and Eve, yet the descriptions werent strictly just male or female; the emphasis was in strength and beauty. By not fully separating the two "halves", we issue a challenge to possess both qualities. This pen is a milestone for Kasama. The design is our own version of a full filigree. All aspects from mixing and molding the alloy, to sculpting and polishing, was done in-house by Marco. And although the base pen was our smaller model, the Tala, it is densely packed with details from the folklore. From the flow and direction of the Amihan and Habagat, the claws and feathers of the mighty bird, and the symbolic shapes of each split segment of the bamboo, each element was painstakingly sketched, molded, and sculpted -until this final creation. However, despite wanting to add as many elements, with as much detail as we could, special attention and consideration had to be given to retaining the pen's ergonomics. "Artistry that doesnt get in the way of function" - It was this balance that made it exeptionally difficult, yet thoroughly rewarding in the end. This is just the first step in our endeavor to create truly unique cultural pieces that are also excellent writing tools. Welcome to a new era of Kasama.
