Basic shapes traced off a royalty-free Pexels ref (link in next toot), trying to practice my hard shading.

Been doing some practice with fold shapes and rendering. All ref photos are via Pexels
Then I drew this with the same brushes, but it was a much harder struggle. So I painted the image in my recent post hoping that it was because I was having trouble with the brushes. But no, it looks like faces are going.
hopefully they'll come back in a week or so because I have a painting that's mostly done except for the hair and faces.
(This is Mu Qingfang, drawn off the same 3d model (which I also made) as the earlier post)
Made this a few days ago on a better day for faces, after making myself some new "engraving" style CSP brushes as a way to self-soothe.
(This is Yue Qingyuan from my fic)
Another study from a royalty-free photo. For this one I also used brushes I made, but this time, my oil pastel imitations, and gave myself a much more free palette. However, I drew it all on one layer except the background (which I forgot about until very near the end), as if it were real paper.
A few years ago I used three of my single-pigment watercolor pans to paint swatches, then scanned and color sampled from it to create a palette of colors. Then, to make this image, I worked in layers of washes exactly as if I were painting a normal watercolor painting. So this is realistically colored as if painted from PR255, PY65, and PB29.
All brushes were made by me from my own scans. The reference was a royalty free photo.
Done while looking at Met Museum acc.no. 1977.87. I'm trying to find a way to get that brush pen look without tearing out my hair.
A little digital watercolor study based on free stock art. All brushes used on this were made by me, from scans of watercolor blobs also made by me.
