Despite the failure of the #MacCharlie, I've at least been able to build a #ShimIWM, as my boards arrived today.

I'm pleased to say it works!

Important update with the #MacCharlie (yes, I still have it, yes I almost forgot I had it too, no, it's still dead)

I've finally been able to get new ports for the main board, and I've also been able to start crimping on the new connections for the PSU.

I still need to build a mount for the PSU and make a replacement speaker, but it's getting very close to being complete!

Three days of cleaning - and the #MacCharlie is looking presentable.

The electronics still need sorting out, but I can work on it without getting my hands covered in rust!

Ah shoot.
Ordered some replacement DB9s for the #MacCharlie, and they don't fit! Apparently I need amplimite 745988-1s.

What is the chance anyone has spares?

So inevitably I need to back up all of the #MacCharlie firmware.
The two EPROMs are easy enough to do - but there's also an intel 8032 (relative of the infamous 8051) that does... Something.

Does anyone know if there's a way to dump i8032 firmware?

So finally - after being in my possession for about two years, I've finally started work on the #MacCharlie

“Ever heard of MacCharlie? It was a 5.25" floppy based MS-DOS machine that served as a cradle for your original Mac and attached over serial. It even included a keyboard "overlay" with extended keys. Found in Byte Apr 1985: https://t.co/ghNq7M94BR”
