The opening of the #CMP & #CMA was depressing. So much work was left after the #SBSTA and #SBI that parties are starting to prioritize. Since this is the finance COP, this will be the focus. Many parties are also keen to prioritize #MWP, #GGA and #NAP. Very few groups are mentioning #gender. Today is #GenderJusticeDay at #COP29. Parties cannot leave w/o agreeing to the #LWPG and the #GAP, or there will be no global work plan to recognize, advocate and support #genderjustice in #climateaction.

2011: "medieval" relative to 2024? Perhaps so, in online terms. In any case the internet-ancient ca. 2011 #ClimateMyth centered on the "Medieval Warming Period" (MWP) as a dodge to exculpate us from our accidentally warming our planet continues to resonate. ¿Se acuerdan, allá por la primera década del siglo, cuando el negacionismo daba la turra con el Óptimo Climático Medieval (~1000 AD), un periodo supuestamente más cálido que el actual donde los vikingos corrían por las verdes praderas de Groenlandia y los romanos cultivaban Merlot en el sur de Inglaterra (caricaturizando esa caricatura que siempre fue el propio negacionismo)?

Enésima evidencia de que el clima actual es bastante más cálido.

Tree rings reveal that it has not been this warm in the past 1,200 years

A new 1,200 year-long time series based on tree rings shows that the current warming is unprecedented during this period. This is reported by researchers from the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL in the scientific journal Nature.
