Cloud-9: a new celestial object found by Hubble

A team using the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope has uncovered a new type of astronomical object – a starless, gas-rich, dark-matter cloud that is considered a 'relic' or remnant of early galaxy formation. Nicknamed 'Cloud-9,' this is the first confirmed detection of such an object in the Universe.

M94

Magnitude 8.2 spiral galaxy located 16.0 million light-years away in the constellation Canes Venatici. M94 recently (10 million years ago) experienced a violent event that ejected millions of solar masses of material from its nucleus. The faint ring around M94 is a region of strong star formation. It gives the galaxy the appearance of a bone-white eye staring back at you.
