"Passengers flying out of San Francisco Airport in the 1930s and 1940s might have had luggage labels like these affixed to suitcases. In addition to being free advertisement for the airlines, the labels, which could be quite elaborate, were free souvenirs that bestowed bragging rights to their owners.
